double edge safety razor blades | How To Keep Razor Blades Sharp

How To Keep Razor Blades Sharp

I often get asked “how do you keep razor blades sharp“?

I use a 3 step process that makes my razor blades last twice as long…

But before I tell you it…

I want to first say if you’re using a Gillette Fusion, Mach3, or Quattro to shave… YOU’RE FLUSHING MONEY DOWN THE TOILET…

Get a double edge safety razor and some razor blades IMMEDIATELY and save yourself MAJOR $$$…

That should BY FAR be your first priority in regards to saving money while shaving!

For example, a Parker 82R razor and Shark razor blades will cost you less than 10% of what a Fusion will cost over the course of a year…

Each blade is only 17 cents compared to around $3 or more for a Fusion cartridge…

So you can get almost 20 razor blades for the price of just 1 Fusion cartridge!!!

Plus you’ll get a MUCH BETTER shave…

But before you order a better (and cheaper) safety razor and blades, check out my 3 step system… because you might want to add one more item to your cart for step 3…

HOW TO KEEP RAZOR BLADES SHARP USING THE 3-STEP C-D-O SYSTEM

I spent years studying and testing how to prolong blades from going dull…

Believe it or not, but shaving is not the #1 culprit in dulling blades…

In fact it is only #3!

I finally came up with 3 step system that I call “C-D-O” which eliminates the 2 most critical culprits…

Thus extending your blade life by twice as long…

So what does “C-D-O” stand for?

1. C-LEAN
2. D-RY
3. O-IL

So let’s go into more detail about each step…

1. CLEAN YOUR RAZOR

Once you’re done shaving, run warm water over the head of the razor…

Then open the safety razor and remove the blade…

Run warm water over the blade directly and use your thumb and index finger to help remove all shaving soap, cream, and hair from the blade.

2. DRY YOUR RAZOR BLADE

Step 2 is all about removing the first big culprit that dulls your razor blade… and that is WATER

So after cleaning the blade, gently dry it off with a terry cloth…

BETTER YET… use a hair dryer to dry the blade…

If it gets too hot, use a tweezers to hold onto the blade…

3. OIL YOUR RAZOR BLADE

Step 3 is all about removing the 2nd culprit to dulling blades… and that is AIR or more specifically OXYGEN

After drying the blade, run a thin layer of blade oil onto the edges of the blade…

This will seal out harmful oxygen (which causes oxidation and rusting) and moisture from the air (bathrooms tend to be quite humid)…

Without the oil, these two culprits can come together on the razor blade and gradually dull it even when it’s not in use…
